Poker is one of the most popular games online today, and it is also one of the most addictive. There are literally thousands of poker variations. Poker is also a family of competitive card games where players wager against each other, often in terms of the ranking, on the strength of that hand. The highest ranked hand refers to the hand with the most available cards, which is referred to as the Ace/King or Ace/Queen. Playing an Ace/King in stud is often considered a risky move, because the Ace/King contains the most cards – and therefore the highest possibility of being popped. However, if the Ace/King is held by the player without a straight, the highest ranked hand can be used as the starting hand. It’s important, however, to make sure the Ace/King contains at least two cards, so it may be bluffed upon. In seven-card stud, the starting hand refers to any single card, not counting the two cards in the King/Queen or Jack/Ten.

Flush and straight flush refer to the same hands, but the former refers to a four-of-a-kind draw, while the latter is simply a five-card draw. A flush is usually referred to as the best hand, but keep in mind that there are several combinations involving all five cards. In draw poker, all the cards in a flush must match in value; that is, you can’t have a pair, a single card, a ten, and a King or Queen in a flush. Draw poker rules may vary depending on what type of poker you’re playing, but all entail a set of basic principles. By learning the basic rules, you’ll be able to master this exciting game.
